Age Ranges & Rooms

The Snug (3 months - 14 months)
Our youngest children enjoy a gentle, flexible routine tailored to their individual rhythms.
The day often begins with breakfast alongside children in The Burrow, before moving into the calm, nurturing environment of The Snug. Here, babies explore sensory-rich activities such as puzzles, treasure baskets, and family photo books, helping them build familiarity, language, and early connections.
Outdoor time is an important part of the day. In our all-weather garden, babies are supported as they take first steps, navigate small obstacles, roll balls, and explore movement at their own pace, with opportunities for a little climbing for more adventurous learners.
Care routines, such as bottle feeds, naps, and snacks, are unhurried and meaningful. Snack time is a shared social experience where children watch fruit being prepared, explore textures, and begin to hear and use simple language.
Focused activities follow children’s interests, from sand play for sensory exploration to practising pulling up and balancing at the ballet bar. Our curiosity area encourages babies to investigate objects like wooden peg dolls and curtain rings, with staff carefully extending their play and learning.
All children come together for lunch, creating a sense of community from the very start.

The Burrow (14 months - 2 years)
Our toddlers begin their day with breakfast, hosting our youngest children from The Snug, enjoying opportunities to connect with younger peers before moving into play.
Imaginative play is a key feature, with children exploring the role-play kitchen, making tea, preparing food, and copying familiar routines. Outdoor play flows naturally from the room into the garden, where children enjoy the mud kitchen, water wall, sand shed, and planting activities such as growing strawberries and sunflowers.
Snack time encourages independence. Children wash their hands, find their own cup using picture prompts, and begin to recognise their belongings.
Throughout the day, children move freely between spaces, choosing from a range of activities including messy play, stories, and imaginative areas like the animal hibernation corner, where they explore small-world play using natural materials.

The Hive (2 - 3 years)
Children in The Hive continue to build independence and confidence in their daily routine.
Breakfast is shared with Preschool, where children begin to butter their own toast and pour drinks, making choices from a breakfast bar. Snack time includes simple challenges such as peeling bananas, supporting problem-solving skills.
The day includes a balance of free play and structured moments. Children explore role play, small-world setups such as “dinosaur land,” and creative activities. Morning registration in small groups provides time to talk about feelings, and to gently reinforce routines and expectations. Children can move between two rooms: a lively space with role play, play dough, and loose parts play, and a cosy area for quieter moments with books, dolls, and familiar family photos.
Outdoor play focuses on physical development, with bikes, balance beams, and obstacle courses encouraging children to move in different ways and build coordination.

Preschool in The Den (3 - 4 years)
Our oldest children take on greater responsibility and begin preparing for school life.
The day starts with breakfast alongside The Hive, where children practise self-serving, learn about portion control, and often help younger children with simple tasks. Morning registration introduces a structured start to the day, with songs, visual routines, and opportunities for children to talk about what’s happening next. Children also take part in a “book vote,” choosing between stories and recognising their names.
Outdoor learning is rich and purposeful. In the garden, children grow herbs and vegetables, learning how to care for plants and even use them in simple cooking activities. Physical play includes group games and imaginative experiences like recreating We’re Going on a Bear Hunt through obstacle courses, encouraging teamwork, turn-taking, and cooperation.
Learning takes place in small groups across different spaces:
● The main room supports school readiness through role play, construction, and problem-solving activities
● The “Motions and Potions” room encourages creativity with accessible art materials and sensory play
● A calming sensory room offers a peaceful space for relaxation, books, and gentle activities
Pre-School children enjoy meals and snacks in their own dedicated kitchen area, using name placemats to support early literacy and independence.
