A Day at Acorns
Each day at Acorns Nursery is carefully designed to balance care, play, and learning within a warm, nurturing environment. While routines provide structure and reassurance, our approach remains flexible, responding to children’s individual needs, interests, and stages of development.
The day begins with a relaxed, social breakfast in The Burrow for our babies and toddlers and in The Den for our 2-4 year olds, helping to build a strong sense of community across the nursery. As they grow, children are encouraged to develop independence, serving their own food, pouring drinks, and supporting younger peers with simple tasks.
Throughout the day, children enjoy a wide range of play-based experiences. Indoors, they explore role play, small world environments, and sensory activities using natural and open-ended resources that spark curiosity and creativity. Outdoors, our all-weather gardens offer rich opportunities for physical development, from early movement and balance to climbing, obstacle courses, and group games that promote cooperation and confidence. Children also take part in planting and growing activities, learning to care for their environment.
Snacks & Mealtimes
Snack and mealtimes are unhurried and social, supporting independence as children wash hands, recognise their belongings, and practise simple skills like peeling fruit. These everyday moments are valued as important opportunities for communication and learning.
Group Time
Group times are gently woven into the day, giving children opportunities to share feelings, enjoy stories and songs, and understand daily routines. As children grow, they are introduced to more focused activities that support problem-solving, creativity, and school readiness, all delivered through engaging, play-based experiences.
Quiet Time
Quiet, cosy spaces are always available for rest and reflection, ensuring children feel secure and supported. Across everything we do, our focus is on creating a safe, stimulating environment where children can explore, build relationships, and grow in confidence every day.
